Do it or dont do it? Safely? Crazy splitting at 80mks? Its a debated topic, particularly with drivers at the red lights wanting to run you over because you are now in front of them...and you have slowed them down by 2 seconds (safety distance??) and their curried sausages for dinner are getting cold at home....

I personally do, but on certain roads and only at certins times of the day and conditions and only when cars are stationary o it or dont do it? Safely? Crazy splitting at 80mks? Yep. Unless I have plenty of time to get whereI'm going, but event then, safer at the front of the pack than being rear ended.

My rules for splitting are:
- Only when I know the lights will stay red for a while.
- Sit in front of the front car not beside (takes out the temptation to drag you) even if you have to cross pedestrian lights
- If you get stuck and traffic has started moving, tuck into the nearest gap, car behind usually not picked up speed yet.
- Try not to do it in front of a cop car

Saves time and lets me ride in the gap between 'waves' of traffic.

Having said that, maybe i should clarify lane splitting from filtering. Filtering is going between stationary traffic, lane splitting, overtaking on the left of moving traffic is splitting...this i do not do... here is why:

That video is a a good example of why not to undertake. Take your point on filtering though. A rider passed me on the way home tonight, i was in the car, flew past me at about 30kms faster than me, i was doing 80, only heard a squeeling 250 for a split second before he shot past, just as well i didnt change lanes. I think if your gonna do it, be safe hey?
