Motorcycle Safety
The scenic winding roads of the Yarra Ranges are an attraction for touring motorcycle riders in Victoria. These roads can provide a challenge to the rider's skill. Unfortunately this leads to motorcyclists being over-represented in casualty crashes in Yarra Ranges.
Yarra Ranges is ranked second highest for motorcyclist casualties out of all Victorian municipalities. Generally higher rates of motorcyclist casualties are experienced in inner Melbourne, while the highest number of fatalities are concentrated in the hill country to the east of Melbourne, and the west coast also has a high number of both motorcycle casualties and fatalities.
